The Argentina women’s team will write a new chapter in its history when it participates in the World Cup that will take place in Australia and New Zealand between July 20 and August 20. And who will carry the light blue and white flag is Aldana Comettione of the most experienced players of the national team that achieved direct qualification to the World Cup after the third place obtained in the Copa América in Colombia.
Although it has not yet been made official who will be chosen by the coach of the Argentine National Team, German Portanova, Cometti seems to have a secure place. Of course, with Madrid Club de Fútbol present and with a World Cup on his back, only a misfortune would prevent him from competing in the tournament that will be held in Oceania.
Cometti made his debut at Independiente in 2012 to later have steps through Boca and River. In 2016, he emigrated to Spain, more precisely to Granada. Between 2017 and 2018 she played for Atlético Huila in Colombia (there the women’s league is professional), but at the end of her contract she returned to Spanish soil: Seville, between 2018 and 2020; Levante Unión Deportiva, between 2020 and 2022; and Madrid Club de Fútbol, from 2022 to the present, make up the entire career of the defender.
For any footballer, participating in a World Cup is the best and Cometti could cross out the double: “Participating in the first World Cup was incredible, but participating would also be amazing, it would be to feel those little tickles from when you are a child and see Argentina on TV. You feel what the National Team is, the shirt, representing the country and there you start to set a lot of goals, objectives, dreams ”, gets excited in a dialogue with Clarion at the Lionel Andrés Messi property that the AFA owns in Ezeiza.

The National Team’s performance four years ago was historic: two draws (0-0 against Japan and 3-3 against Scotland, after being 0-3) and one defeat. Although this was worth the elimination, the balance was positive and augurs well for the future. But Cometti is clear that there is material for more and in the World Cup that is coming the objective will be to obtain the first victory for the selected team in the World Cups that FIFA organizes since 1991.
“We are for more, we deserve more. From the last World Cup to this one, many things have changed. Before it was unthinkable to play a friendly match, maybe one was played in four years and there was no preparation for the World Cup”, Cometti analyzed.
In addition, he did not want to overlook the importance of the AFA in the growth of women’s football: “We have the AFA that we know supports us, that helps us, that gives us friends, clothes”he stressed.

And he continued with reflection by making a comparison with the first two world teams. “Today we have what those who played in the World Cup in 2003 or 2007 did not have. We are calmer and we are more focused on football than on everything that goes after it. Now, we have our minds on improving physically, technically, at a collective level and we can have our heads on that”.
When asked by Clarín if he imagines himself returning to Argentine soccer, where he played before the league became professional, he left the door ajar. “Sometimes I think so, sometimes I think no, but I believe that it can be and that it can happen. Argentine soccer is much more competitive than when I played and that, thanks to professionalism, many can dedicate themselves to just playing soccer, ”he said.
It is true that a lot of work remains, but it is also a reality that the level is better each year than the previous one. Given this, Cometti left latent a possibility that would be a milestone: “Tomorrow, a team from Argentina can win a Libertadores because they are working for that”.
Dreams are here to come true, even if some are more difficult than others. Cometti fought and worked hard to have the present he enjoys. A second World Cup would be a reward for effort and a goal achieved.
Cometti’s request to the media: “Go to New Zealand”
When at the press conference that some players and Portanova offered at the Ezeiza premises, Cometti was asked what he would like the media to report on the National Team, the response was forceful and went viral. “The important thing would be that they go to New Zealand”began.
And he demanded: “That there be Argentine media in New Zealand. Because the last World Cup (NdeR: France, in 2019) I think there was only one. We need to improve that part. In the end, today what is not seen on television does not exist. And in the end, if we don’t appear on television or you, as the media, don’t communicate about women’s soccer with the Argentine National Team, many people can’t see it, many girls can’t choose to play soccer because they don’t see it, because they don’t know it exists. So, my request is that they go to New Zealand, that they continue to promote it, that it exists, that younger girls, than women, can play soccer, they can dream of playing in the World Cup.”
