No grand finale! Glasners Frankfurt loses cup final

Successful title defense! RB Leipzig beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 in the final of the DFB Cup and thus clinched the second cup win in a row.

For Oliver Glasner, the time at Eintracht ends without the second title after the Europa League last year. A deflected shot by Christopher Nkunku (71′) and a goal by former Salzburg player Dominik Szoboszlai (85′) made the difference.

Frankfurt too harmless in the end

Frankfurt has Leipzig mostly under control, the “Bulls” fight despite a lot of ball possession with the high pressure of the Glasner team. Werner’s first attempt for Leipzig after a Szoboszlai pass in the fourth minute was too weak, on the other hand Kolo Muani only hit the side netting from a similar position (16′). At the end of an intense but poor first half, Nkunku just missed the goal (41′), then it was 0-0 at the break.

The second half begins with a little less intensity, both Kolo Muani (59th) and Götze (64th) cannot accommodate the ball in the Leipzig goal. After 71 minutes, Leipzig scored the opening goal – which was a bit lucky at the time:

Nkunku’s shot is deflected by two Frankfurters and jumps into the goal; 1-0 for Leipzig. After the opening goal, Leipzig also took control on the pitch and increased it to 2-0 (85 ‘) through Szoboszlai, with this score the final ended.

RB Leipzig thus defended the title in the DFB Cup, Oliver Glasner was unable to say goodbye with a trophy in his last game as Eintracht coach.
