Despite their 100 million euro deal, the Stuttgarters don’t want to make any big leaps in the transfer market at first. As far as possible departures are concerned, their situation has improved.

CEO Alexander Wehrle has warned against too high expectations in view of the imminent rain of money for VfB Stuttgart.

“This does not change anything in our goal of becoming an established Bundesliga club again in the next few years. Otherwise we would have worded it accordingly,” said the 48-year-old of the German Press Agency.

Porsche joins VfB

The day before, the Bundesliga club had presented a “world brand alliance” that, according to Wehrle, would bring in a good 100 million euros. According to this, in addition to Mercedes-Benz, its competing car manufacturer Porsche is also to become an investor in the Swabians and also take on several sponsorship packages from them. The Porsche subsidiary MHP has secured the naming rights to the Stuttgart stadium for at least the next ten years, but Mercedes will also remain with the club as an investor and sponsor.

“There’s no need to expect that we’re going to go out and invest huge amounts in new players this summer. As I said on Tuesday, there will still be players wanting to leave the club to possibly make the next step. And if so offer fits all sides, that will also be the case,” explained Wehrle. However, VfB’s position has improved in the game of potential change candidates Borna Sosa and Konstantinos Mavropanos.

“We want to act differently on the transfer market, but the priority now is stability,” said Wehrle. Most recently, the Stuttgarters had only just managed to stay in the league twice in a row.

The South Korean Woo-yeong Jeong from league rivals SC Freiburg is still considered a possible transfer target for VfB for the coming season. The market value of the 23-year-old offensive player is estimated at almost four million euros.
