Mexican Athletes from Guanajuato Compete in Various Disciplines at XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023

León, Guanajuato.- Various disciplines began their activity at the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023, the Mexican delegation has already faced some tests. Regarding the athletes from Guanajuato, the first to compete are in the disciplines of weightlifting, judo, swimming and horse riding.

After an emotional Opening Ceremony held on Friday afternoon at the Jorge “El Mágico” González National Stadium, the regional fair formalizes its development. For this Saturday the weightlifters Yesica Hernández, Andrea de la Herrán, the swimmer Karen Rodríguez, as well as the judoka Paulina Martínez and the rider Guillermo de Campo will come into action.

According to the competition schedule, weight lifting began on the 23rd, but due to the lack of adaptations in the “Flor Blanca” Complex, the tests on the platform were postponed to Saturday.

In the 49 kg category, there is the Guanajuato duo of Hernández Vieyra and Andrea de la Herrán, both seeded in Group A. Other Aztec participants are José Poox and Juan Barco in the 55 kg, in the same division, but from the women’s in which Yudheiky Panti is.

Before her debut at the Central American Games, Yesica, a gold medalist at the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games, commented: “It is a very big responsibility and very exciting to know that we can win a medal in this important event and I hope that the results will be give”.

SWIMMING

On the other hand, in the “El Polvorín” Sports Complex, swimming starts, a discipline in which Karen Rodríguez is present with the 400-meter freestyle test. Later, on the 26th, she swims in the 4×200 freestyle relay and the next day she faces the 400 medley.

“This was one of my biggest dreams as an athlete, to represent Mexico in a competition of this type. I feel very strong, very motivated, I feel that I am going to grow a lot mentally. I don’t want to set a limit, I want to surprise myself and win individual and relay medals”, highlighted Rodríguez Cárdenas.

JUDO

Another sport that starts this weekend is judo, a discipline in which Guanajuato has Prisca Awiti (-63 kg), Sergio del Sol (+100 kg) and Paulina Martínez (-52 kg), the latter is the first to have action on the tatami, her category competes this Saturday.

“I am very excited, I am calm, I think I have channeled my nerves well. These are my first Games and I have very high expectations, both for myself and for Guanajuato. I am with all the courage, the concentration of being able to be here”, Martínez Claro said.

For her part, Prisca Awiti, an Olympian in Tokyo 2020, is tested on Sunday and “Checo” Del Sol begins his journey on the 26th. Judo is based at the UES Coliseum.

EQUITACIÓN

In these Central Americans, the Dominican Republic supports as a sub-venue, among the disciplines it houses is horse riding whose events will take place at the Palmarejo Equestrian Center, a venue that opens the program with the individual dressage test attended by the Leonese representative Guillermo de Campo who ride the horse “Quelite”.

The other members of the national shortlist are José Mercado (“Balanca”), Luis Santiago (“Egipcio II”) and Fernado Parroquín (“Beldad”).
