McGregor knocks out Heat mascot, in promotion of NBA Finals

MIAMI (AP) — Former UFC champion Conor McGregor knocked out the Miami Heat mascot in a promotional act that went wrong during a break in the game.

Burnie — or more specifically the man who dons that costume — had to seek medical attention Friday night after taking two punches from McGregor during the third period break in Game 4 of the NBA Finals, between the Heat and the Los Angeles Lakers. Denver Nuggets.

The Heat reported Saturday that the employee, whom they did not identify, was given pain medication and was resting at home.

McGregor was at the arena as part of a promotion for a pain-relieving spray. He was booed by many Miami fans even before the promotional event began.

The mascot wore oversized boxing gloves and a gown, similar to what a boxer would wear heading into the ring. McGregor landed a left hook, which dropped Burnie. Then he hit him on the ground.

Afterwards, McGregor tried to spray the mascot on the mascot, while several members of the team participating in the promotion dragged Burnie off the field.

McGregor hasn’t fought since he injured his left leg in a loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. His last win dates back to January 2020.
