Mbappé at OM: “We won’t get there”, replies Emmanuel Macron to a young Marseillais

It’s a funny scene. Picaresque! A scene, captured by a BFM camera, which reminds everyone how much more Kylian Mbappé is than just a football player. He is a national idol with a love rating that is as strong in Paris as it is in Marseille. On the move in the Marseille city for three days to multiply announcements and recovery plans, Emmanuel Macron checked it again. This Tuesday morning, while he was enjoying a new walkabout under the sun, the head of state, accompanied by the mayor of Marseille Benoît Payan, was maliciously approached by several children.

“You can call Mbappé”, asks him, cash, one of them who wants to see his idol leave the hated club of PSG to join that of Olympique de Marseille. “It won’t happen,” replied the President of the Republic, himself a big supporter of OM, with a big smile despite the encouragement of the kids. “You know what, he continues, I’ve already tried and we won’t succeed. »

Barely a few days ago, during the VivaTech show in Paris, Emmanuel Macron had already been questioned, by a young supporter dressed in a flocked jersey bearing the name of the PSG striker, about the possible departure of Mbappé. . Again the head of state replied that he had tried to push for the latter to continue his career in the capital but that he had no “scoop on this subject”. He had also worked behind the scenes in 2022 for Mbappé to extend with the capital club.

The President of the Republic has never hidden his attraction to sport. He notably received French basketball prodigy Victor Wembanyama on June 16 before the latter flew to the NBA draft where he was selected in first position – a first in the history of French basketball – by the San Antonio Spurs.
