Quebec’s Abraham Toro hit his first home run of the season, which was a big part of the Milwaukee Brewers’ 4-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night at Rogers Centre.

In his second game in major league baseball in 2023, the Longueuil native sent a shot from Alek Manoah (1-6) over the right field fence, in his first appearance at bat in the second inning. By this time, Brian Anderson was already on the trails.

It was even Toro’s first hit since his recall the day before. On Tuesday, he was hit by a shot in his only time at bat as a pinch hitter.

Coming back to today’s matchup, the 26-year-old also had a single and was struck out twice after his shot.

The other Brewers points came from Owen Miller. In the seventh inning, he hit a double that allowed Joey Wiemer and Christian Yelich to step on the plate.

At bat for the Jays, Kevin Kiermaier hit a triple that produced a run in the fifth and a weak ground ball from Cavan Biggio allowed for another success in the seventh.

Pitcher Julio Teheran (1-1) savored the victory, while Devin Williams took the opportunity to sign his ninth save of this campaign. Having allowed the visitors’ first three runs in four innings on the mound, Manoah suffered the setback.

The Blue Jays and the Brewers will meet on Thursday afternoon for the third and final game of their series. The latter is currently equal, since the only Canadian team in the major leagues won 7 to 2 on Tuesday.

Two bombs for Shohei Ohtani

In the afternoon at Guaranteed Rate Field, Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani let his stick do the talking in a 12-5 win over the Chicago White Sox.

In the third inning, Ohtani kicked the ball out of bounds to center field. His teammate Mike Trout, who had homered two engagements earlier, was on the trails at the time.

Whoever was used as the designated hitter for this duel in Chicago did it again on his next pass at the plate. It was also a two-point cannon shot, but this time the ball ended up in the right field stands.

Taylor Ward and Chad Wallach also took advantage of the generosity of White Sox gunners to stretch their arms.

The win went to Jaime Barria (2-2), who gave up an earned run on four hits in five innings of work. The 26-year-old right-hander passed six rivals in the mitt. On the mound for the two bombs of Ohtani and that of Trout, gunner Lance Lynn (5-5) suffered defeat.
