Today the Dauphiné may be decided. In the slightly less than 150 km of this stage, the organization has crammed three brutally tough cols: the Madeleine, the Mollard and the Croix de Fer. The finish is on top of the latter, at an altitude of 2067 m. Can we expect fireworks? Watch VRT 1 from 13:50 or here with a live stream.

  1. 13 hours 24. Campenaerts approaches the Col du Mollard. With its more than fifty hairpin bends, it is especially tough in the first part and in the last hectometres. In hard numbers: 18.5 km at 5.8%. .
  2. 13:19. Sitting still, Pierre Latour does not participate in that. He sets up a new counterattack with teammate Alexis Vuillermoz and Simon Guglielmi (Arkéa-Samsic). .
  3. 13:16. Waiting, Victor Campenaerts is not participating. He uses his time trial legs to start the Mollard with as much head start as possible. The stage victory may be a bridge too far, but a shot at the polka dot jersey is possible. .
  4. 13:11. Situation downstairs. After the sinking, Campenaerts extends his lead to 1’20”. Bayer, Charmig and Thompson refuse to give up their venture. Latour is back in the peloton after all that effort, over two minutes. .
  5. 13 hours 02. Downhill it goes less smoothly for Latour. The virtual leader in the mountains classification will have to make up ground. .
  6. 12 hours 58. Wondering if Campenaerts will continue alone in the valley to the foot of the Col du Mollard. Is being caught up and assisted by the pursuers perhaps a better option? .
  7. 12 hours 54. Campenaerts has a full minute ahead of Perez. Behind them, Bayer, Charmig, Latour and Thompson tangle together at 1’25”. The peloton has secretly approached to 2’30”. Now follows a long descent to the valley. .
  8. Col de la Madeleine. A Belgian first on top of the Madeleine! Lucien Van Impe did it three times in the Tour de France, today Victor Campenaerts does it in the Dauphiné. . 12h50.
  9. 12 hours 47.
  10. 12:46 am. Latour keeps advancing. He has swept up a few pursuers and is catching up with Cavagna and Thompson. Only Perez still drives between that group and Campenaerts. The difference? One and a half minutes. .
  11. 12:41 pm. Campenaerts alone! Victor Campenaerts also leaves behind his last companion. The Belgian is alone on his way to the top of the Madeleine! .
  12. 12 hours 38. Cavagna pulls out. Only Campenaerts and Perez remain in the leading group. Latour, meanwhile, is breathing down the neck of the pursuers. .
  13. 12:33 p.m. The time gaps continue to shrink quietly. .
  14. 12 hours 28. Campenaerts, Cavagna and Perez lose some of their lead. Both Latour (now at 2’20”) and the group with Bayer, Charmig and Thompson (at 1’25”) gain seconds. .
  15. 12:23. Latour has burned out his second teammate with Vercher. He sits 2’50” from the head of the race, less than ten kilometers to the top of the Madeleine. .
  16. 12:18 p.m. Just when we’ve outlined the situation, something changes. Typical. Mihkels has to release the role in the leading group. .
  17. 12:15 p.m. Situation sketch. Campenaerts, Cavagna, Mihkels and Perez stay together in the front. Bayer, Charmig and Thompson stick around at about 1’50”. The tandem of TotalEnergies, with Latour and Vercher, is steadily making up ground at 3’20”. The peloton is currently looking at the case at a good five minutes. .
