Ligue 2: Le Havre finds the elite, Metz should follow and Bordeaux is scuttled

The last day of the L2 disputed this Friday offered its share of emotions. Leader for nine months and undefeated for 32 games before their loss in Annecy (1-0) three weeks ago, Le Havre validated their ticket for the L1 combined with the title of French Champion of L2 after their victory (1-0 ) at the expense of Dijon during this 38th day.

Luka Elsner’s men quickly took the lead through Josue Casimir (11th) before managing the score against an opponent who was struggling to maintain it. The meeting was interrupted with a handful of seconds remaining due to an invasion of the field, before resuming 20 minutes later and ending with this score of 1-0. The last passage of the oldest club in L1 dates back to the 2008-2009 season. The Normans had then made the elevator.

Match stopped in Bordeaux

They will most likely be accompanied in L1 by FC Metz, which therefore finds the elite only a year after leaving it. With a magnificent series of 16 wins and 9 draws, the Messins finished the season in a cannonball to grab 2nd place. They made a last effort this Friday by overcoming Bastia (3-2), revelation of the season with its 4th place. However, the rise of the Messins is not yet official, pending the result of the last match, Bordeaux-Rodez.

Supported by 42,000 spectators, the Girondins de Bordeaux dreamed of a last day with a twist with a misstep from Le Havre or Metz and a victory on the wire. It has not happened. Worse, their match against Rodez was definitively stopped in the 22nd minute. After the opener from Ruthénois Luca Buades, a Bordeaux supporter entered the lawn to jostle the striker. The perpetrator was arrested and taken out of the stadium by the security service. Players from both teams then entered the locker room.

After 45 minutes of waiting, the referee Nicolas Rainville finally decided to stop the game definitively. According to him, Luca Buades was examined by the Rodez doctor and by the emergency doctor on duty. The conclusion is that he was unable to resume the game following the attack he suffered. A disciplinary committee will have to rule next week on the result of the meeting. If the match is lost in Bordeaux, the Girondins will stay one more year in L2 and it is Metz that will rise. In the highly improbable hypothesis of a match to be replayed, it would take a victory by 4 goals for the Girondins to pass in front of the Lorrains.

Laval saved in stoppage time

At the bottom of the table, Dijon (18th), two years after leaving L1, descended to National following their setback in Le Havre and accompanied Niort (20th) and Nîmes (19th), already relegated. For the moment, Rodez is in 17th place, synonymous with relegation to National, but the Aveyron club should probably win its meeting in Bordeaux on green carpet in the coming days and therefore ensure its maintenance. If this decision was taken by the disciplinary committee, it is Annecy (16th) which would go down to the National. The Savoyards lost (1-0) to Paris FC who therefore took revenge on their evening opponent who had eliminated them in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France at the Charléty stadium last February. The Laval stadium (14th), in a relegation position all evening, ensured its maintenance at the last minute of additional time thanks to a goal from Diaw!
