Lianne Tan Secures Victory in European Games Badminton Matches

Lianne won first against the Italian Hamza (21-10, 21-10) and then against the Hungarian Sandorhazi (21-13, 21-16).

While the first two of each group will be qualified for the round of 16, our compatriot still has to meet Finland’s Nyqvest on Wednesday to ensure her presence in the final draw.

“I’m almost guaranteed to be in the round of 16, which of course was my first goal. I hope to win my third match to come out first in my pool because I could then have a more favorable draw. It is quite significant.”

An objective that is all the more important since these European Games award points in the Olympic ranking.

Already present in London (2012), Rio (2016) and Tokyo (2021), Lianne Tan, 32, is competing in the European Games for the third time, after Baku (2015) and Minsk (2019). She had won a formidable silver medal in 2015 and was unfortunately eliminated in the round of 16 in 2019.

Also engaged in Poland, Julien Carraggi, 23, won his first Group H match against the Austrian Wraber (21-11, 21-11). The Brussels will face the German Schaefer, this Tuesday evening, and the Czech Louda, Wednesday, to reach the round of 16.
