Las Vegas: America’s New Sports Power

Casinos once sponsored boxing matches, now NFL football, the NHL’s Stanley Cup, Formula 1 and soon to be MLB baseball lure crowds to Las Vegas. The Viennese Nadine Brandl tells.

„Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas“: Anyone who comes to Nevada’s gambler’s paradise will see this neon sign on the median of Vegas Boulevard. Since 1959 it has been the distinctive feature of this city. Besides, it is America’s most modern, fastest growing metropolis. Almost three million people have long been living in this melting pot of gambling, entertainment, business, culture and exciting sport. What began in 1905 with the settlement and was raised from the sands of the Mojave Desert in the 1930s with the legalization of gambling with casinos and hotel complexes attracts millions of gamblers, tourists or drive-in people looking for marriage every year. Ice hockey, football, and Formula 1 in November are now showing their appeal. The dollar rolls.

What seems absurd at first glance is dreamlike reality here. There, where 40 degrees are common during the day, you have almost come to the puck. Since 2017, the Las Vegas Golden Knights have been luring people into their arena, which is enthroned in the suburb of Paradise. With the receipt of the franchise rights to the National Hockey League (NHL), ice hockey is being played in the desert, even successfully. The club is currently playing for the Stanley Cup and is in the final for the second time after 2018. Tickets and merchandising are in great demand, as are partnerships – one of which goes as far as Kagran. The Vienna Capitals are proud partners of Las Vegas.
