Kenyan Kipyegon sets next world record

Faith Kipyegon set another world record at the Diamond League meeting in Paris. On Friday, one week after setting a new best over 1,500 m in Florence, the Kenyan achieved the fastest time ever over 5,000 m with 14:05.20 minutes.

The 29-year-old Kipyegon was over a second faster than the Ethiopian Letesenbet Gidey, who set the old record in October 2020 (14:06.62). “I didn’t think about the world record. I don’t know how I did it,” said the new record holder. A week ago in Florence, Kipyegon had secured the record over 1,500 m with 3:49.11 min.
