Julien Carraggi Advances to Round of 16 in Men’s Badminton Tournament at European Games

Julien Carraggi qualified for the round of 16 of the men’s badminton tournament of the European Games, which serve as a framework for the European championships, Tuesday evening in Tarnow in Poland.

The Belgian badiste, 71st in the world, won his second match in group H by beating 21-19, 18-21 and 21-12 in 1 hour and 17 minutes to the German Kai Schäfer (BWF 70).

It’s a second victory in a row for the 23-year-old from Brussels who won his first match on Monday at the expense of the Austrian Luka Wraber (BWF 97) 21-11, 21-11.

Wednesday, the winner of the last Austrian Open will be opposed to the Czech Jan Louda (BWF 55), also qualified after two victories, in his last meeting of the group stage. A meeting that will be used to determine who finishes at the top of the group.

The first two of the group will go to the 8th finals.

Tarnow’s results are taken into account for the ranking for the Paris Olympics in 2024.
