Jordi Meeus Selected Over Sam Bennett for Bora-Hansgrohe’s Tour de France Team

Jordi Meeus has received great news: he will start the Tour de France next week. The 24-year-old sprinter is preferred in the selection of Bora-Hansgrohe to Sam Bennett, green jersey winner in the 2020 Tour.

German WorldTour team Bora-Hansgrohe today announced 7 of the 8 names for the Tour de France (July 1-23).

The team consists of climbers and classification men such as Emmanuel Buchman and ex-Giro winner Jai Hindley. For the sprints, the team is counting on the Dutchman Danny van Poppel and Jordi Meeus.

For Meeus (24) it will be his first Tour, his second Grand Tour after the Vuelta in 2021.

The Belgian sprinter is preferred by Bora to the Irishman Sam Bennett. He won the points classification in 2020 as a Quick-Step rider, but will not ride the Tour this year. He is expected in the Vuelta at the end of the summer.

Who will be number 8?

Bora-Hansgrohe still has one place left for the Tour. Next weekend, the team will make a decision about its 8th Tour rider. It will be a climber anyway.

Cian Uijtdebroeks most likely not. The young Belgian climber will ride the Tour of Spain later this year.

During the Tour, the Sibiu Cycling Tour in Romania is on his program.
