John Heitinga took over in January of this year, when Ajax was in 5th place. Ultimately, he guided the club to a 3rd place in the Eredivisie after a disappointing season.
“He has learned a lot in recent months and we would like to play a role in his development by keeping him within the club. But we have come to the conclusion that Ajax needs a more experienced head coach,” the board concludes.
