In the Rufino Centro Coliseum, with the presence of more than 70 boys and girls between the ages of 9 and 18, the Municipal Institute of Sport and Recreation of Armenia, Imdera, held a handball festival.
The athletes showed all their skills in this discipline that is gaining more followers in the city every day. The teams from the educational institutions and clubs played very exciting matches, which in the end left the Imdera A team, in men’s, and the Cuyabros club, in women’s, as winners.

Mayor José Manuel Ríos Morales said that, hand in hand with Wilson Herrera, director of the Institute, they have done a very positive job of massification, which has led to the discovery of new talents, who in the short term will join the ranks of the department’s selections.
New stars
Quindío stands out in this discipline, as demonstrated in October 2022 in the First Qualifier for the 2023 National Sports Games, in which in the semifinals of the women’s category they defeated Valle del Cauca 34-15, a rival they had never been able to beat in a qualifier or in some version of the National Games.
On that occasion, Juan Alejandro Beltrán, departmental coach of the discipline, said: “It was something very positive, we won widely, the girls showed a lot of hierarchy, the team improved a lot compared to the previous federated tournament and we headed to the final. In the men’s category, we faced a Caldas, who made it more difficult for us last time; we were much clearer, the team was very good and we also won extensively to reach the final. The finals against Antioquia were tough, very physical, we lack details that we have to polish; we lost 25-24 with the women and 31-28 with the men”.
