The Guggenberger Legionnaires Regensburg returned to winning ways on Friday at the start of the 15th matchday of the 2023 season in the 1st Baseball Bundesliga. After five defeats in a row, manager Martin Helmig’s team won 5-1 at the Stuttgart Reds. In an exciting game, the guests from the Upper Palatinate made the decision with two runs each in the eighth and ninth inning. Game two follows on Saturday afternoon at the same place.
The encounter started with a pitcher duel between Johnaikel Acosta and Christian Pedrol. Only one run reached the scoreboard at the beginning. David Dinski gave the visitors a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the second half. Jannik Denz equalized a section later with an RBI single to make it 1-1.
This only changed again in the eighth inning when Daniel Patrice was able to run home to a bases-loaded walk by Nino Sacasa to make it 2-1 for Regensburg. The Guggenberger Legionnaires followed up directly with a sac fly by David Dinski. In the ninth inning, Daniel Patrice made it 5-1 with a 2-run home run.
Daniel Patrice finished the game with two hits, two runs and two RBI. Elias von Garßen, Eric Harms, Devon Ramirez and David Dinski each recorded two hits for the guests. Xavier Gonzalez and Danilo Weber had two hits for the Reds, who had a total of ten hits, but only one run.
Jan Tomek got the win with six strikeouts in three relief innings. Jose Mendoza conceded the loss on the side of Stuttgart.
