Most recently celebrated a title in Munich: Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler.

Many tennis fans like to use the terms “fast” or “entertaining” when it comes to doubles. Nevertheless, the doubles competition is overshadowed by the singles competition in every tournament. Therefore, only a few people in the stands of the tournaments should know that the doubles in Germany and Austria are currently in very good shape.

When Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler secured the home title at the ATP tournament in Vienna last fall, both made it into the top 50 of the doubles ranking. Since then, the duo has been able to establish itself on the ATP Tour, winning further titles in Acapulco and Munich and increasing their world ranking position.

With Sam Weissborn, who reached the final in Monte Carlos, and Philipp Oswald, who has won eleven ATP titles to date, there are currently two other ÖTB players in the top 100. In recent years there have already been numerous successful players in doubles such as Oliver Marach, Alexander Peya and of course Jürgen Melzer. A trend that is continuing.

Three DTB pros recently in the top 10

In Germany, Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies as a German duo with their two Grand Slam titles in Paris in 2019 and 2020 caused a new euphoria of doubles as a variant alongside singles. With the rise of Tim Pütz, Kevin Krawietz’s new partner, a third DTB player reached the top 10 of the ATP ranking within a short time. In addition, the Frankfurt native was crowned Grand Slam champion with his mixed title at the French Open.

As of this week, Constantin Frantzen and Hendrik Jebens also belong to the select circle of the hundred best doubles specialists in the world. Both have played very successfully together on the Challenger Tour in recent months. Jebens has climbed about 150 places in the ranking over the past 12 months. Frantzen even managed to jump about 300 places in the same period. Tendency rising!

So there are currently enough reasons to take a look at the courts beyond the individual competitions when visiting the tournaments.
