Gerardo Martino: From Coaching Barcelona to Taking Charge of Inter Miami

Gerardo “Tata” Martino coached Barcelona in the 2013-2014 season, where he then coached Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets.

After that, the now 60-year-old Argentinian was national coach of his country for 2 years. Like Messi, Martino comes from Rosario. “We have a very good relationship. We come from the same city and we have worked together for years,” says the trainer about Messi.

Martino succeeds the Englishman Phil Neville in Miami, who was fired earlier this month. For the Argentinian, it will not be his first adventure in the MLS. In 2018 he guided Atlanta United to the title.

Martino’s last job as a trainer was as national coach of Mexico. There he left after the Mexicans were eliminated in the group stage of the World Cup in Qatar.
