France Secures Victory Against Norway in Euro Espoirs with Goal from Olise

Goal: Olise (57th) for the Blueberries

No match will be easy for the France Espoirs team in this Euro. After two group meetings, it is in any case the observation that we can make in view of the difficulty in which the successes of the Blueberries were built, against Italy Thursday (2-1) and Norway this Sunday (1-0). Groggy for an hour, Maxence Caqueret’s troupe got away with it by raising their voices afterwards, but still shivered at the end of the game (without needing the help of the referee this time) as she likes to do now. Barring a disaster against Switzerland on Wednesday (8:45 p.m.), the roosters will be present in the quarter-finals next weekend (and in the event of a draw, they would even be assured of first place in the group).

Cherki, scare me

The turnover, in the group phase of a major tournament, often intervenes in the third meeting, when the first two have been properly negotiated; Sylvain Ripoll has another opinion on the matter, and no less than seven changes have been made by the coach, in the starting line-up, compared to the first day against Italy. Neutralized by a playful Norwegian midfielder, heckled by Antonio Nusa and Oscar Bobb behind (without Lucas Chevalier being worried for all that), this remodeled French team has long had all the trouble in the world to penetrate the zone of truth, on the soaked – and difficult – lawn of the Doctor-Constantin-Rădulescu stadium: a header from Amine Adli (13th) here, an attempt by Joris Chotard a bit unscrewed (17th) there, and that was about it in the first act. Finally, after half a chance and a blue miss (50th), the French salute came from the only two players who seemed able to break the lock, while Norway had discovered themselves: Adli escaped on the left, Michael Olise took over at the far post (0-1, 57e), and everyone blew; an action on which Arnaud Kalimuendo, as since the start of the meeting, has also gone through.

The triple substitution made by Ripoll on the hour mark – and specifically the entry of Rayan Cherki – gave the Tricolores a boost, the Gone quickly finding himself on the verge of the decisive pass for Olise (64th), released hurt on the action. Despite an alert from Leo Hjelde (66th), Maxence Caqueret’s teammates found fluid football, Amine Gouiri (69th) and this same Cherki (71st) using Kristoffer Klaesson. The Scandinavians waited until the 87th minute to find the opponent’s frame, with a cannonball from Sebastian Sebulonsen in the niche of Chevalier, while the incoming Elye Wahi and Gouiri, in quick succession, did not take advantage of the spaces offered in end game for breaker (90th+1). What the French could have bitterly regretted, if Chotard had not intervened on a late attempt by Emil Konradsen Ceide (90th + 3) or if the Norwegian goalkeeper – mounted on a corner – and Seedy Jatta had not fallen on an imperial Castello Lukeba on the goal line (90th + 4). It will start to become a habit for the Lyon defender.

Norway (4-3-3): Klaesson – Sebulonsen, Heggheim, Daland, Hjelde (Wolfe, 81e) – Hove, Kitolano, Zafeiris (Solbakken, 81e) – Bobb (Ceide, 77e), Bothheim (Jatta, 78e), Nusa. Coach: Leif Gunnar Smerud.

France (4-4-1-1) : Knight – Diakite, Simakan, Lukeba, Larouci – Olise (Barcola, 65th), Chotard, Caqueret (M. Kone, 78th), Adli (Gouiri, 60th) – The Fairy (Cherki, 60th) – Kalimuendo (Wahi, 60th). Coach: Sylvain Ripoll.
