After the aggression of the Rodez striker, the referee ended the meeting, which could have recorded the rise of the Girondins in Ligue 1. The Disciplinary Committee of the Professional Football League is to meet on Monday.

Four men were taken into custody after the interruption of the decisive match for the outcome of Ligue 2 on Friday June 2 in Bordeaux, including the alleged attacker of a player from Rodez, according to a source close to the investigation.

While Rodez had just opened the scoring in this 38th and last day match of L2, striker Lucas Buades was attacked by a supporter. After the aggression of the player, concussed and unable to resume the match, the referee in agreement with the LFP put an end to the meeting whose some 40,000 supporters massed at the Matmut Atlantique stadium hoped for a victory for the Girondins for a possible recovery. League 1.

Sports Minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra welcomed “the firm decision of the LFP” : “Violence has no place in the stadiums and our line is clear: zero tolerance”she tweeted, warning that she would be “very attentive to the sanctions that will be taken by the authorities and by the courts”.

“The team is not beaten because it does not play well or because it does not score, but for a reason that has nothing to do with the game. And when you are a player or a coach, you can’t do anything about it”lamented Friday Alain Giresse, former glory of the Girondins.

Le Havre crowned and back in Ligue 1

Police blame 45-year-old supporter according South West, to have entered the field while the opponents of the Girondins were celebrating their goal and to have “pushed violently” the Rodez winger. He is in police custody for “violence and intrusion on the playing area disrupting the competition”.

According to the regional newspaper, this Bordeaux fan is a resident… of Annecy, another club “victim” of the events of the evening since if the victory of Rodez were ratified, the Haute-Savoie formation would be relegated to National.

Three other supporters are in custody: two men, aged 29 and 30 according to South Westfor also having entered the field, and a last, aged 47, who allegedly outraged and headbutted a steward.

The Disciplinary Committee of the Professional Football League must meet “from Monday to study the follow-up to be given” to these incidents. Can or should we replay the match? Or will the score of the game at the time of the stoppage be considered the final result?

The decision could have serious consequences since among the two other competitors for the rise in Ligue 1, Metz won their match, but Le Havre saw theirs be stopped a few tens of seconds from its end.

At the time of the referee’s whistle for a foul, the Le Havre supporters thought the game was over and invaded the field, wrongly. The referee therefore suspended the meeting… before resuming it a few minutes later, thus validating the coronation of Havre.

Le Havre, the dean of French clubs will therefore return to Ligue 1 after 14 years of absence, and finally offer its Océane stadium the posters for which it was sized.
