Former Scotland manager Craig Brown has died

Scottish club Aberdeen announced on Monday that Craig Brown had died at the age of 82.

The former coach of the Scottish football team, Craig Brown, the last coach to have taken his country to the World Cup in 1998 in France, died Monday at the age of 82, announced the Aberdeen club, where he had finished his career.

«Everyone at Aberdeen FC is heartbroken at the loss of our very dear former manager, manager and club ambassador, Craig Brown“, wrote the Dons in their press release.

A player whose career was cut short at the age of 27 by a knee injury, he had been the coach of the Scottish Espoirs then of the A team from 1993. Under his orders, Scotland qualified in quick succession for Euro 1996 in England and especially for the 1998 World Cup, the last one she played.

After failing in qualifying for Euro 2000 and the 2002 World Cup, he resigned in 2001 after leading 70 international matches, a record for a Scottish coach.

He then coached Preston North End in England and then Motherwell and Aberdeen in Scotland, until 2013, when he took on a non-executive director role at the club.
