Former NFL and MLB Star Deion Sanders Avoids Amputation amid Blood Circulation Problems

Having blood circulation problems in his left foot, former NFL and Major League Baseball star Deion Sanders will not have to undergo an amputation.

The 55-year-old himself confirmed the news in a video on Thursday, detailing the thoughts of one of the doctors for the Colorado Buffaloes, the team that Sanders coaches at the university level. Last week, vascular surgeon Donald Jacobs said the former athlete was at risk of losing a limb.

Sanders will still go under the knife on Friday to remove blood clots from both of his legs.

“I am going to have surgery to remove these clots to restore proper blood flow in my leg and repair the toes. This is what will happen,” he said.

Two of Sanders’ left foot toes were amputated in 2021 to stabilize blood pressure.

“Coach Prime” has been the head coach of the Buffaloes since last December. The cornerback was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame in 2011. He also played at the outfield position in Major League Baseball between 1989 and 2001.
