Fans React with Anger to Zidane Iqbal’s Transfer from Manchester United to FC Utrecht

The announced transfer of Zidane Iqbal (20) from Manchester United to FC Utrecht has caused angry reactions from the fans of the selling club. The Iraqi midfielder is reportedly taken over by the Domstedelingen for a million euros and signs a four-year contract in Utrecht.

Many fans of The Red Devils find the transfer fee too low, according to the reactions on Twitter. One fan describes the club as ‘the worst negotiators in the world’, another calls the compensation United receives ‘a farce’. A third fan also makes no bones about it: “Too cheap, very disappointed, but I think it’s understandable,” said this supporter.

Others believe that the club is wrong to say goodbye to the talented midfielder. They would have preferred to see a construction in which Iqbal would be given the opportunity to temporarily gain experience at the highest level elsewhere. “This is a big mistake. He could be one of our best midfielders if given the chance. A loan to grow wouldn’t hurt anyone,” one Twitter user wrote. “Why didn’t we rent him out, he didn’t even get a chance on the field last season,” another wondered. Erik ten Hag did not grant the young midfielder a single minute of playing time in his debut year in England.

Pogba
Another Twitterer even foresees a replay of it Pogba-scenario around Iqbal. “We are selling him for a million to get him back for 70 million in the future, mark my words,” this person writes. French midfielder Paul Pogba left Manchester on a free transfer in the summer of 2012 to continue his career at Juventus. Four years later, the club brought him back to Old Trafford for 105 million euros, but after six unsuccessful years, the 2018 world champion returned to Turin on a free transfer.
