European Games 2023: A Dress Rehearsal for Paris 2024 Olympics

The third edition of the European Games begins on Wednesday June 21 in Krakow, Poland. Five athletes from Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes are taking part in this dress rehearsal before the 2024 Paris Olympics.

As their name suggests, the European Games are the Olympics, but on a European scale! 48 countries are represented for 12 days of competition in 29 disciplines, until July 2, in Krakow-Malopolska, Poland.

A bridge to Paris 2024

19 of the disciplines on the program will offer qualification opportunities for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games: athletics, badminton, 3×3 basketball, boxing, breaking, canoe-kayak slalom, BMX freestyle, mountain biking, fencing, judo, artistic swimming, modern pentathlon, diving, rugby 7, taekwondo, table tennis, shooting, archery, triathlon.

Clouvel, Jandard, Bouyer… Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes well represented

270 champions make up the French delegation, including Jules Bouyer and Alexis Jandard from Lyon in diving, Stéphanoise Élodie Clouvel in modern pentathlon, Loana Lecomte from Annecy in mountain biking and Angèle Hug from Ardèchoise in Canoe Kayak Slalom.

For Alexis Jandard, originally from Messimy and licensed in Vaugneray, near Lyon, these games are ideal preparation before the Worlds in July in Japan, which should allow him to win a ticket for the Olympics:

There is the Olympic village, there is the French delegation, we are with all the other athletes, so it is already a first step in this Olympic atmosphere. It comforts to participate in this kind of event before the Olympics. It confronts us with everything we’re going to see during the Paris Games. I already have my experience with the real games, with the Youth Olympic Games, Baku in 2015, so it’s something I know. I approach it in a bit the same way as the others: I try not to get overwhelmed. You have to take advantage of the event because it’s exceptional, so I can’t wait!

Alexis Jandard is competing in three events in Krakow: one meter, three meters and synchronized three meters.

Marie Mané (3×3 basketball, LFB player at Landerneau Basket Bretagne) and Jean-Charles Valladont (archery) will be the flag bearers of the French delegation at the opening ceremony of the European Games in Krakow- Malopolska 2023.
