Domingo German Makes MLB History with Perfect Game

Domingo German (30), the Dominican pitcher for the New York Yankees, became MLB legend on Wednesday. He indeed signed the 24th perfect match in the history of the US pro league during his team’s victory at the Oakland Athletics (11-0). The last “perfect game” in MLB dates back to the summer of 2012.

A perfect game is a must for a pitcher in baseball. Thanks to his throws, neither opposing batsman could land a strike. And the pitcher didn’t make the slightest mistake either (bad pitch, player hit by the ball, etc.) that would have taken the batter automatically to first base.

In baseball, during each of the nine innings of a game, a team must eliminate three opponents (three possible ways: a series of good pitches, a ball caught on the fly or a ball returned to first base before the batter achieve it). On Wednesday, German managed to out the first 27 players who came to him at bat. So perfect match.

The magic of a “perfect game” is that it can be achieved by a star MLB pitcher but also by an anonymous one. Domingo German rather falls into this second category. He has played in the US professional league and the Yankees for six years. German had a great 2018 season with 18 wins

, but since then he has only won 11 matches. And his career is punctuated with injuries and suspensions (for cheating and domestic violence).
