DFL Announces Pairings and Dates for Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 in 2023/24 Season

On Friday, July 30, the DFL announced the pairings for the individual matchdays in the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 for the 2023/24 season. Here is all the information about the announcement.

Do you already know when the new season will start?

Yes. Match operations in the Bundesliga start on the weekend of August 18th to 20th.

When does the second division season start?

The fans of the 2nd division don’t have to wait quite as long as those of the first division. The second highest German division begins on July 28th.

Who opens the 2023/24 season?

When is the winter break?

After the XXL winter break due to the World Cup in Qatar last season, everything is back to normal this season. The Bundesliga teams pause after matchday 16 (December 19/20, 2023) until January 12, 2024. The 2nd division stops after matchday 17 on December 15-17, 2023 and starts on January 19, 2024 the second half of the season.

Do you already know when the 2023/24 season will end?

The DFL has already communicated this in advance. On Saturday, May 18, 2024, the 34th matchday of the Bundesliga will take place. As usual, the final second division match day follows the next day, i.e. on May 19, 2024.

What about relegation?

The DFL has scheduled the first and second leg relegations for May 23rd and 24th, 2024. The second leg is scheduled to follow four days later on May 27th and 28th.

Which teams made it to the Bundesliga?

As second division champions, 1. FC Heidenheim has been promoted to the Bundesliga. In addition, SV Darmstadt 98 will play first-class again after a six-year absence.

Which clubs are new in the second division?

Hertha BSC and FC Schalke 04 have been relegated from the Bundesliga. SV Elversberg 07 and VfL Osnabrück also managed direct promotion from the 3rd division. In the relegation, SV Wehen Wiesbaden also prevailed against Arminia Bielefeld.
