The Denver Nuggets defeated the Miami in Game 1 of the 2023 NBA Finals. Nikola Jokic became the second player in history to make a triple double in an NBA Finals debut in a 104-93 win. It is 1-0 for the nuggets in the series.
Can they Miami Heat get back on their feet or will being Serb on Monday night make their misery even worse? Let’s look at some of the key talking points below…
The selfless team of Denver Nuggets
Die Nuggets wouldn’t be in this successful position if they hadn’t built a roster full of steely defenders and snipers to step in when needed. While Jokic and Jamal Murray considered critical to the offense, it’s the entire team that works together and can rely on each other’s strengths to succeed.
Michael Malonehead coach of the Nuggets, used the players at certain points in the game to help the core team play to their strengths.
Denver’s plans have come true while most other teams are still trying to experiment with their rosters.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Michael Porter Jr., Bruce Brown, Aaron Gordon and Jeff Green had the best season with a net rating of +74.6. While these players didn’t play together often, they seamlessly matched at critical moments in the postseason and adapted to the circumstances around them.
Caldwell-Pope and Porter Jr., along with Gordon and Green, were key to the Nuggets’ offense. As expected, they presented a major challenge that the Miami Heat could not get a grip on.
Who has more in the tank?
The two teams are in the last round of the season. Both have completed over 90 games, which has not gone unnoticed by most players. The Heat had a long road to the NBA Finals, playing seven games. The Nuggets, on the other hand, had no trouble against the Lakers and advanced to the finals after just four games, allowing themselves plenty of time to rest and recover.
In fact, the Nuggets last played nine days ago. This time out was probably good for healing bumps, bruises, tired muscles and weary mind.
It’s also likely they’ll be able to see firsthand what type of Heat team they’ll be up against, even if they had a tentative flight to Boston scheduled.

Malone confirmed this when he explained, “We know who we’re preparing for and we can turn the page and focus on that. The Western Conference Finals was a damn good series.”
The downside is they may have lost their rhythm, but that’s where the coaching comes in and Malone has been impeccable in his approach to re-timing his players’ starts when necessary.
However, in the first game, the Nuggets showed that they are more than ready. At no time did the game threaten to slip out of their hands. On the contrary, they dominated most of the game.

Nuggets are the clear favorites
As mentioned in my last post, I see the Denver Nuggets as the clear favorites. Before the game, I predicted that the Nuggets would win 4 games and Miami 2. After the first game, I think the Denver Nuggets could very well lose only 1 game or even sweep the Heat, defeating 4-0.
The next game will take place in the night from June 5th to 6th, tip-off at 02:00 AM.
