Waiver by Lewalter-Schoor

BAD HOMBURG – City councilor Lucia Lewalter-Schoor (SPD), who has been in office since 2018, will not seek a second term after February 2024.

Lewalter-Schoor emphasizes that she made this decision after careful consideration. Alone health reasons and also the age are decisive for the waiver of re-election. “At the end of the second term I would be 68 years old and that is decidedly too long for me,” said the SPD politician. The city councilor looks back on the past five years with great gratitude. It is particularly important for the head of social affairs that the district and family centers can be redesigned and set up as future-oriented community-oriented facilities “and that the parliamentary group and I together have been able to protect the social sector from being cut short by budget consolidation. Even if we had to accept cuts, no structures were smashed.”

In the SPD, the news was received with a lot of understanding but also with great regret. Lewalter-Schoor is widely recognized and popular in the social sector because of her outstanding professional expertise, according to SPD Chairwoman Elke Barth. Lewalter-Schoor has been active in local politics since 2000, also as a city councilor and deputy chairwoman of the local association. Professionally, the social worker managed the Bad Homburg homeless shelter “Haus Mühlberg” for ten years. She also worked as a facility manager for the Evim Disability Aid in Wiesbaden. Since March she has also been Vice President of the DRK district association in Hochtaunus. The board of the local association will now look for candidates for the election of a new SPD department head. According to party circles, the election will take place next fall. judo/red
