CDMX advances among the most expensive cities; surpasses Frankfurt and Vancouver – El Sol de México

Mexico City continues its climb as one of the most expensive metropolises to live in or visit in the world.

This year, the country’s capital ranked 21st among the most expensive metropolises, according to the Julius Baer Group World Wealth and Lifestyle Report.

The report of the Swiss banking institution indicates that Mexico City is even more expensive than Frankfurt, Germany; Santiago, Chile; Vancouver, Canada; and Johannesburg, South Africa.

According to the report, general prices in the Mexican capital increased 13.5 percent in the last 12 months, although there are items where the impact has been greater. It stands out that in hotel accommodation, rates in Mexico City increased 97 percent last year, due to the fact that it is one of the main tourist destinations in the world. He adds that the costs of flights to the country’s capital increased 25 percent and that of luxury restaurants 19 percent, this at an annual rate.

These elements combine with the high levels of livability and the cultural scene that make Mexico City an attractive place for the wealthy, the document says.

The report ranks the 25 most expensive cities in the world through an analysis of various factors, such as the cost of residences, cars, business class flights, tasting dinners and other luxuries. The first place in the ranking was occupied by Singapore, where high living standards and increasing demands for infrastructure have made living more expensive, according to the document.
