Carolina Marín reaches the semifinals of the Thailand Open

MADRID, 2 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish player Carolina Marín qualified this Friday for the semifinals of the Thailand Open, a test of the world circuit and of the Super 500 category, after beating the Canadian Michelle Li in two sets by 21-19, 21-13.

The woman from Huelva continues to show a good level in the Asian event, where she has not yet lost any set, although now she will have a great test against the South Korean An Se Young, number two in the world ranking, bronze in the last World Championship and who has taken the last three duels between the two.

In any case, the six-time European champion had a good test in Bangkok against the Canadian, world ‘Top 15’ and that created difficulties for her especially in the first round. Marín, as in her two previous games, started well and widely dominated the score (10-3), but from then on, Li balanced the match.

The North American signed six consecutive points to tighten things up and finally even turned the electronic around (14-16). Li remained ahead in the decisive stages (17-18), but the Andalusian knew how to keep calm to regain control and take the sleeve.

The advantage consolidated the triple world champion, who started again strong to command the match with a good advantage. The Spaniard ran away 11-4 and although the Canadian tried to react and close the gap (12-8), Marín gave another boost and closed the match without problems.

“We are already in the semifinals. I am very happy with how I have played, the sensations on the court and how I have also controlled the air, because it is true that the air has been much more noticeable. On Saturday we have the semifinals with An Se Young and I am with a lot of desire and a lot of motivation
above all to play against her”, said Marín after the game.
