Bulls Point Guard Lonzo Ball Unlikely to Return Next Season Due to Knee Injury

Bulls point guard Lonzo Ball, plagued by a persistent left knee injury, is unlikely to be able to play again next season, franchise vice president Arturas Karnisovas has announced.

“We expect him not to return next season,” said the Chicago leader Thursday night, on the sidelines of the NBA draft which notably saw Frenchman Victor Wembanyama being chosen in first position by San Antonio. .

“Lonzo will continue to recover. If he comes back, that would be great. But we will prepare for the season knowing that he will not return,” he insisted.

Ball, who has already missed all of last season, underwent a cartilage transplant in March, his third left knee surgery. The 25-year-old’s first operation took place in February 2022 for a torn meniscus.

“I know we’ll see him on the basketball court eventually,” hoped Karnisovas, of the point guard who signed a four-year, $80 million extension with the Bulls in the summer of 2021.

Since the start of his career, which began with the Lakers, Ball has averaged 11.9 points, 6.2 assists and 5.7 rebounds.
