Breakdancer India Sardjoe (17) seizes historic ticket for Olympic Games | Sports Other

Breakdancer India Sardjoe has qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris on Tuesday. The seventeen-year-old from The Hague won the European Games, which meant she qualified directly for the new Olympic component.

Sardjoe is regarded as a greatness in her sport. Last year she won the European title, after which the then sixteen-year-old Dutch was crowned the youngest world champion ever in New York.

As a result, Sardjoe was the top favorite at the European Games in Krakow, Poland. She turned out to be able to handle that pressure very well. She referred the Ukrainian Anna Ponomarenko to silver with a signed 3-0 win. Dominika Banevic from Lithuania practiced bronze.

Sardjoe is the first female breakdancer ever to hold an Olympic ticket. The sport of judging will make its debut in Paris next year as part of the Games. Sardjoe will also be the top favorite there.

In breakdancing, the athletes compete against each other in three battles. After each battle, the jury casts the votes, after which the one with the most points wins. Breakdancers are also called b-girls and b-boys.

Menno van Gorp just missed out on gold and the accompanying Olympic ticket for the men. The three-time world champion from Tilburg lost 1-2 in the final to Frenchman Danny Dann, who, like Sardjoe, is therefore assured of participation in Paris. The 34-year-old Van Gorp can still qualify for the Games via the world rankings.

Screen gold for Tristan Tulen

Sword fencer Tristan Tulen has won the gold medal at the European Games. The 31-year-old from Brabant defeated the Portuguese Miguel Frazão 15-10 in the final.
