Brandin Cooks Making a Big Impact on the Cowboys’ Receiving Corps

Undoubtedly, one of the Cowboys reinforcements that most generates expectations for the coming season is Brandin Cooks. With his arrival, Dallas is filling the need for a veteran presence in its receiving corps. A role that, let’s remember, TY Hilton had in 2022 and that Odell Beckham Jr. could have.

However, Cooks ended up being the bet of the Cowboys leadership. And although he has only been with the team for a few months, the veteran has surprised us with his speed during official and private training. But his contribution so far has not stopped there.

In fact, the former Texans bring the experience needed to improve Dallas’ offense in general. This is how head coach Mike McCarthy revealed it in recent statements.

“Apart from his speed, I think he is an exceptional route runner”McCarthy said of Cooks in statements collected by ESPN’s Todd Archer. “He has a great understanding of routes and times.”

Precisely, the experience of Brandin Cooks in those technical aspects is being beneficial for his companions in the corps of receivers of Dallas. This is how CeeDee Lamb let him see in statements also collected by Archer.

“I learn visually and just watch him go through his routes, the way he prepares, the way he practices, how he goes about his job”Lamb said of Cooks. “I love all this. He is a professional to death.”

It’s true that Cooks, after nearly a decade in the NFL, hasn’t garnered anything like leading the league in receptions. Or, be chosen for the Pro Bowl or the All-Pro. However, the Oregon State product has played for big-name quarterbacks like Drew Brees and Tom Brady. Besides, he has reached the Super Bowl twice. He’s not among the big stars, but he knows how to be a consistent contributor offensively.

Because of all this, Cooks brings valuable knowledge to the young cowboy receiving corps. This is how Michael Gallup let it see in recent statements.

“He tells everyone, ‘When you’re done with this, you’re done with that, make sure you stretch’” Gallup said of Cooks. “’Make sure you do what you’re supposed to do so you can stay in the league as long as possible.’ That’s one of the most important things right now. Soccer, that’s going to be there. We came to the league for a reason. But he’s here talking about how you stay in the league.”

As we mentioned at the beginning, Brandin Cooks has been turning heads since his arrival in Dallas due to his speed. During a Cowboys minicamp practice, the veteran shined after a 60-yard touchdown reception. This, of course, is something that can come in handy for quarterback Dak Prescott’s cowboy offense.

“He has pure speed”, Prescott said of Cooks. “He runs the same way all the time. I think that is the most important thing. When you have speed like that, that makes him capable of making every play or route, the defense doesn’t know what it’s going to deal with.”

While this all looks great, what Brandin Cooks demonstrated in Dallas so far remains “unofficial.” It is true that, during training camp, we already see the receiver excelling under a different intensity in practices. However, it will be in the regular season that we really see if Cooks was the veteran piece the Cowboys needed.
