Baseball – Split in derby between Traiskirchen Grasshoppers and Diving Ducks

In the first innings of the first game, the teams in the Lower Austria Derby faced each other on an equal footing. By the third inning, the game was tied at 5-5. In the fourth inning, Grasshoppers pitcher Markus Trimmel had problems with a compact offensive performance by the Diving Ducks, who only recorded seven runs in this section – including a home run by import player Koki Yonezawa. For Trimmel, the working day at the mound was over. Michael Koller took over and offered a solid pitching performance. However, the Grasshoppers’ offense was unable to catch up against the Diving Ducks’ defense – led by the two pitchers Eoghan McGarry and closer Alexander Kienberger. In total, six home runs could be admired in this encounter (3x DD / 3x GH). On the Diving Ducks side, Yonezawa, Alessandro Zoufal and Jonas Kreska were able to run off all four bases. Philipp Eckel, Alexander Schiller and Jacob Smith succeeded with the Grasshoppers.

The second game of the Lower Austria derbies was initially a very pitcher-dominated encounter with spectacular defensive scenes. While David Tongue seemed tireless for the Grasshoppers at the mound – he completed a “complete game” in which he only had to concede one run – the pitchers of the Diving Ducks got difficulties with the Grasshoppers’ offense as the game progressed. The hosts finally prevailed 7-1 and celebrated their third win of the season. In addition to Tongue, Eric Clauss, who replaced Tobi Werner as catcher, also convinced.
