Azerbaijani athletes will compete at the 2023 IBSA World Games

Azerbaijani para-athletes will compete for medals at the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) World Games to be held in Birmingham, Great Britain, from August 18-27.

20 athletes participating in judo and chess competitions will represent Azerbaijan in this tournament.

The 2023 World Games are the largest international high-level event for visually impaired athletes, bringing together more than 1,700 competitors and support personnel from 70 nations.

The competition program includes powerlifting, judo, goalball, soccer, chess, tenpin bowling, shooting and showdown, as well as cricket, archery and tennis. Within the framework of the competition, the IBSA Blind Soccer World Championship for men and women and the World Championship for the visually impaired will be held.

The World Games, normally held every four years, are the pinnacle of the IBSA international calendar outside of the Paralympic Games. With three Paralympic and eight non-Paralympic sports, for some athletes it is the highest level at which they can compete. The last IBSA World Games were held in Seoul, South Korea, in 2015.
