Artist’s Remix Mistakenly Becomes Hit at European Athletics Championships

ROVERETO. The new piece by the artist from Rovereto Agostino Carollo has achieved, albeit unintentionally, a continental success. And all for one gaffe by the organizers of the European Athletics Team Championships in Poland.

At the end of the last match of the international meeting – which saw the Italian nation of Tamberi, Tortu, Crippa and Battocletti triumph among others for the first time in its history – the loudspeakers of the Silesian Stadium in Chorzow started at full volume “Maybe because I love you” as a tribute to the new continental champions. Too bad, however, that it was not the original version of «Ricchi e Poveri» but precisely the remix adapted by Carollo which is depopulating in discos all over the world.

The mistake, on the other hand, did turn up one’s nose to some faithful Italian athlete black and white football (above all the high jump champion Gianmarco «Gimbo» Tamberi) given that a passage of the piece, in addition to praising Milan (a team for which Ago supports and to which the piece is dedicated), is an anti-Juventus slogan: «Hold me strong and stay closer to me and whoever doesn’t jump is a Juventus hunchback ». In short, Ago’s summer disco hit made its way, albeit unintentionally, into the Polish stadium packed with tens of thousands of sports fans. And this, as mentioned, for an oversight.

Probably the organizers, to pay homage to the triumphant blues, are rely on Google by clicking on one of the best-known Italian songs abroad, especially in the East: «It will be because I love you» by «Ricchi e Poveri» published as early as 1981. But, for a matter of algorithms, the revised and corrected Carollian version came out which, moreover, as mentioned, he is pro-Milan and against Juventus. Obviously, the embarrassment was great but in the end no one took it too much, filing the incident along the way between toasts and arms in the sky.

Agostino Carollo’s new single, just to throw in a colorful note, was released on the historic German label «Stereoact» (the one that launched the Beatles several decades ago) using the pseudonym «Dj Redblack» (which, coincidentally , means red and black). «Today it is one of the most viral and trending songs on Spotify, iTunes, TikTok and Instagram – comments the author amused – what happened in Poland is very funny and I am grateful for this gaffe, which launched a huge hit in a stadium in nightclubs. By the way, speaking of Poland, they contacted me from the Krakow team to perform this song with them».

«In that country, on the other hand, it is at the top of all rankings. After the announcement of the mistake at the European Athletics Championships, I received a lot of messages from all over the world to congratulate me. The funniest thing is that some think that the phrase Juventus hunchback is an insult but it’s not like that. The version made, however, was also liked by the original authors. It’s a fun song, out of all the rules. In Germany it is at number three, ahead of the biggest names in world music. It’s nice to see how music brings people together.”

In short, Agostino Carollo from Rovereto was, even if for a few minutes, a hero by chance no less than at the final of the European Athletics Championships. And tell us a little!
