The Argentina-Uruguay joint bid for the 2023 Basketball World Cup was an unsuccessful joint bid by the Argentine Basketball Federation and the Uruguayan Basketball Federation for the right to host the 2023 Basketball World Cup.

The campaign was led by Argentina, where most of the proposed venues were located. The bid was one of two shortlisted bids, along with the joint winning bid from the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia.

On January 11, 2017, the joint candidacy of the Argentine Basketball Federation and the Uruguayan Basketball Federation was announced in Buenos Aires. The candidacy was launched by the Argentine politician Esteban Bullrich, the soccer player Fernando Cáceres, and the presidents of the candidacy Federico Susbielles and Ricardo Vairo. On May 22, 2017, the bid team unveiled its bid logo and motto: “Two countries, one passion” in Montevideo.[1]​

According to press reports, Buenos Aires would have hosted four Preliminary Round Groups, two Second Round Groups and the Final phase of the tournament, from the Quarterfinals onwards. Montevideo would have hosted two Preliminary Round Groups and two Second Round Groups.

On December 9, 2017, FIBA ​​decided to award the hosting rights for the 2023 Basketball World Cup to the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia, over Argentina and Uruguay, after the final submission of bids, which took place on the same day. , in Mies, Switzerland. However, citing the quality of both joint bids, FIBA ​​decided to give Argentina and Uruguay the opportunity to make an unopposed bid for the 2027 Basketball World Cup. They were told to make adjustments to their original bid, as recommended by FIBA, and would be scheduled to present their new offer to the world basketball body in June 2018; after which FIBA ​​had to decide if it would grant the hosting rights for the 2027 edition of the tournament to the two South American countries.[4]​

However, Argentina and Uruguay finally decided to withdraw their candidacy for the 2027 Basketball World Cup, on May 24, 2018.[5]On April 28, 2023, Qatar was chosen to host the 20th edition.
