Anders Antonsen Faces Pressure at European Games After Surprising Loss

Anders Antonsen put himself under pressure at the European Games in Poland on Tuesday.

The Danish badminton player surprisingly lost 19-21, 19-21 to Swedish Felix Burestedt in his second group match at the tournament.

Thus, Antonsen seems to be forced to win on Wednesday against Finnish Kalle Koljonen.

If Koljonen beats Turkish Emre Lale in two sets on Tuesday, Antonsen must win in two sets over Koljonen to advance to the European Games.

In his first group match on Monday, Antonsen won over Lale, while Koljonen beat Felix Burestedt.

It was the first time in his career that Anders Antonsen, who is number 16 in the world rankings, lost to the Swede. Previously, he has beaten Burestedt three times.

Burestedt is ranked number 78 in the world.

The European Games begin with a group stage with four players in each group, from which the top two advance to the knockout phase.

All Danish badminton players started the group stage with a win on Monday. Antonsen was the first Dane in action on Tuesday.

He is the second seed in the tournament, where he is also the defending champion.
