So far, not much has happened at Alba Berlin after the quarter-finals. But now the first change seems to be imminent.

Berlin. The days when Alba Berlin became part of a veritable sensation are more than a month ago. It is true that fate only gave the basketball Bundesliga club a supporting role as an inferior opponent in the quarterfinals. But the other favorites from Munich and Bonn had a similar experience when they encountered intoxicated Ulmer and couldn’t resist the new champions.

For the Berliners, this ended a long period of collecting titles, which could also lead to a change in the team. But so far little has happened. Jonas Mattisseck’s (23) contract has been extended by three years. “Since he joined us, he has had a great development. And he still has potential to improve further,” says sporting director Himar Ojeda. The Slovene Ziga Samar (22), who was loaned to Hamburg, will now actually appear for Alba.

At least five open questions in the Alba squad

But now is the time when something more could happen. In Israel it is said that Tamir Blatt (26) has now agreed on a three-year commitment with Maccabi Tel Aviv after his contract with Alba expired. The point guard would be the first departure from the capitals.

But he shouldn’t be the last. Finally, there are five professionals whose contracts with the Berliners are also expiring. Including captain Luke Sikma (33), who was only a supporting actor in the play-off, or playmaker Maodo Lo. For sports director Ojeda, an intensive phase of negotiations is imminent.
