Aaron Rodgers Advocates for the Legalization of Psychedelics in Sports

Aaron Rodgers, Super Bowl XLV champion and current quarterback for the NFL’s New York Jets, advocated for the legalization of psychedelics at a conference organized by the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies in Denver, Colorado.

“It’s radically life-changing, it’s dynamically changing, and in the process there are already hundreds of guys from the NFL who have reached out. It’s been a lot of fun getting to connect with these guys who have done this job or were fascinated by it. and they want to learn more,” said Rodgers, who was one of the speakers at the event called “Psychedelic Science 2023” last Wednesday.

The intention of this group is to decriminalize the use of psychedelic mushrooms on the grounds that their consumption offers benefits for disorders such as post-traumatic stress or alcoholism, although doctors argue that more research is required in this regard.

In August of last year, the four-time MVP of the NFL season acknowledged that consuming ayahuasca, a concoction native to the Amazon with hallucinogenic effects, helped him improve his mental health and sports performance, something that the NFL did not consider a violation of its drug policy.

“I feel like that experience paved the way for me to have the best season of my career, that’s what ayahuasca did for me, and what better way to work on my mental health than to have an experience like that?” 39 years old at that time.

In his participation in “Psychedelic Science 2023,” the former Green Bay Packers quarterback also spoke about how the sports industry has received psychedelics.

“The response from other people in this industry has been incredible. Seeing basketball players, baseball players, surfers, artists, my own teammates and colleagues from across the league reach out and share their story about their own medical journey or ask being part of an upcoming one has been quite special,” he stressed.

According to the ‘quarterback’, the most complicated thing for this legalization is to dispel the myths that exist around these products.

“We need to change the conversation, dispel these archaic myths about the dangers of psychedelics or negative side effects, and start sharing the real wisdom and truth about it,” he concluded.
