A drift competition will be held on the Jēkabpils side for the first time on Sunday – Motoru sports – Sportacentrs.com

The Baroni track will certainly be an interesting challenge for all athletes, firstly, for the first time official competition on this track, secondly, the track scheme will be integrated into the main part of the rallycross track and, thirdly, this time the track will not focus on speed, but on close and technical battles, where both Street will demonstrate their skills , both Semi Pro athletes.

Registration for the competition will end on Tuesday, but 63 Street class athletes and 27 Semi Pro class athletes have already applied for the start, which means that the Baronos drift will last for two days. On the main day of the competition – June 11 – visitors can expect even three TOP32 tandem finals.

The competition will start on Saturday, June 10, where drift training will take place throughout the day, and in the evening both test classes will have their qualification runs. On the other hand, June 11, Sunday, is set as the main day of the competition. The official part of the competition will start at 13.00 with the official opening ceremony, followed by the main tandem runs of Street and Semi. It should be mentioned that the entrance for spectators is open from 9.00, so the biggest fans of drifting have the opportunity to visit the competition already in the morning. It must be mentioned that if you buy an entrance ticket for the competition on June 11, the ticket is also valid for the visit on June 10.

Organizer Jānis Blušs: “We’ve been looking at the Jēkabpils side for several seasons, this year everything came together so that we finally have to try to organize a competition on this side. We are really looking forward to the Jēkabpils stage, all road races are always special with the hospitality of the cities, the special aura in the races and the solidarity of the riders. We have determined that 2023 is the pilot project for the Jēkabpils section. If everything goes well, then we are definitely ready to hold the Jēkabpils stage every drift season, officially including it in the season calendar. There are many challenges, but that only makes it all the more interesting, so we will be happy to welcome each of you at the Baroni Drift party stage.”

The Jēkabpils competition will also be special in that the first start will be the new drift project Camaro, which has never been a drift car in Latvia. Its owner is Māris Hartmanis from Jēkabpils, which certainly makes this a great coincidence, the first competition for this car and the first time it will drift on the Jēkabpils side, so the first tests are right on the “home track”.

Māris will not be the only representative of Jēkabpils side drift, because Jēkabpils side has many strong drifters who have been participating in drift competitions for several seasons and can be proud of good results and of carrying the name of Jēkabpils in the world of motor sports. In the Semi Pro class, we will also see Artūras Miškini and Raivi Veikšanas at the start, whose cars, by the way, can also be seen on the official poster of the competition. In the Street class, we will see the new Drift twins team at the start, which consists of very strong Street class drivers – Ernests Mozga and Normunds Kampe, who, among other things, in the opening competition of the season in Biķerniekis, won the high 3rd place in the team competition, as well as Ernests took the high 7th place in the competition of 66 athletes , but Normunds 14th place. Jānis Iļjins, a driver from Jēkabpils, will also take part in the street class, as this will be his debut competition in drifting.

Spectators, upon arriving at the competition, will have the opportunity to observe it along the outer perimeter of the drift track configuration in 3 spectator zones, as well as use the on-site tribune structure of the “Baroni” sports complex, which will be located right next to the drift track configuration. Spectators will also have free access to the participants’ park, this is the specificity of the “Barons” track, that everything is very close and compact. Spectators are invited to bring their chairs, as the entire drift track can be seen perfectly from the spectator hill area. Tickets can be purchased at all ticket service offices and Ticket Service – Ticket Service

We would like to say a big thank you to SKN Sports for the opportunity to hold a drift competition on this track, we are sure to have a fantastic event. Let’s meet on the weekend in Jēkabpils district, Sala parish Birži, in the “Baroni” sports complex.
