The weather conditions are not nice

Rain jackets are not a luxury in this seventh stage of the Giro d’Italia. It is raining and the wind is also playing tricks on the riders. From the start we saw a well packed Remco Evenepoel with a body and leg warmers. Pink jersey Andreas Leknessund coped better with the stormy weather. Growing up in Tromsø, the Norwegian can withstand rain and wind, his extra layers quickly peeled off. Although he also suddenly got cold and he had to put it on again a little later, and that didn’t go smoothly: the maglia rosa was suddenly spilling on the side of the road. Because of his wet footwear it was not too easy to put on his leg warmers. Mikaël Cherel of AG2R-Citroën also had a lot of trouble putting on his rain jacket. Full wind was a serious opponent for the Frenchman. Wondering if the weather conditions will also play a role in the final, melting snow, rain and hail are reported from Campo Imperatore…

(Famous) Italian refugee takes everything he can

In the front are three early escapees who have a lead of about 10 minutes on the peloton. In addition, two Italians and a Czech. Simone Petilli rides for Intermarché-Circus-Wanty and is 7’49” behind leader Leknessund in the standings. Virtually he therefore drives in pink, but Petilli is not the most striking Italian in the leading group. That honor goes to Davide Bais. His brother Mattia had already shown himself in a breakaway this Giro, but we didn’t see Davide until today. On stage seven it is finally time. Finally, because the Bais Brothers are a certitude for early flights with their team Eolo-Kometa.

Bais was also on a mission in this early flight. There are many mountain points to be won today and the Italian had set his sights on that. The first climb of the day: the Roccaraso, one of the second category. Bais was the first to rise and took 18 points for the King of the Mountains classification, a nice bonus… But the Italian was also the fastest in the intermediate sprints. Bais arrived first at both Castel di Sangro and Bussi sul Tirino.

Americans against the plain, Serry against the canvas as well

Despite the rain, the peloton has been virtually spared from crashes so far. Although there was suddenly a strange moment: Matthew Riccitello and Sepp Kuss knocked each other out in an American get-together. And that just in the supply zone…

Pieter Serry also became acquainted with the Italian soil. Again, because Serry also fell in stage three on Monday. Remco Evenepoel’s servant is back on the bike with torn trousers, but hopefully without any serious damage. We are already looking forward to the Serry Stories…
