Wizards interview Clippers GM

The Washington Wizards, who are looking for a new chief of basketball operations, have conducted an interview with the current general manager Los Angeles Clippers Michael Winger for the job, as reported by Los Angeles Clippers ESPNAdrian Wojnarowski.

Winger is at least the second candidate to meet with capital management and franchise owner Ted Leonsis about the open position. New Orleans Pelicans general manager Trajan Langdon also conducted an interview with the Wizards recently.

According to reports, the assistant general manager of the Milwaukee Bucks, Milt Newton, also held talks with Washington’s management, although these occurred when the franchise was still in an information-gathering stage, so it is likely that the approach between the two parties was less formal. .

Winger, who has worked with president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank in Los Angeles since 2017, has been an NBA executive for nearly two decades. He served as the Cavaliers’ director of basketball operations from 2005-2010, then was the Thunder’s assistant general manager under Sam Presti from 2010-2017.

Although Winger has attracted the interest of various teams since joining the Clippers, he has always turned down the proposals received. The Timberwolves, for example, tried to wrap up an interview with him when they were looking for a new head of basketball operations in 2019, but he opted to pass up the opportunity and remain in Los Angeles.
