Will Blüger’s name be engraved on the Stanley Cup?

On Tuesday, May 9, the Las Vegas hockey players beat the Edmonton “Oilers” 5-1 (2-1, 3-0, 0-0) on the road, making it 2-1 in their four-game winning streak.

Of course, the NHL is probably the most difficult professional sports league in the world to predict, however, the Golden Knights finished the regular season in the lead of the Western Conference and several main contenders for the Stanley Cup (Boston Bruins and Colorado Avalanche) are already watching the games from the couch.

Therefore, the question arises, will Blüger’s name be engraved on the Stanley Cup at the end of the season, if his team still triumphs in the “play-off” tournament?

At the moment, the short answer is – no.

In order for a hockey player’s name to be engraved on the Stanley Cup, he must play at least 41 games in the ranks of the champion team during the regular season, or he must go on the ice once in the jersey of a particular club in a playoff tournament.

Blügers played only 18 games for the “Golden Knights” in this regular season, but he has not yet played in the “play-off” tournament.

However, things can still change. First of all, Blügers can still get a chance to play a match in the “play-off” tournament. Second, we can look back to the example of the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013, when the championship team submitted a petition to the league, requesting permission to engrave the names of Jamal Myers and Dan Carcillo on the Stanley Cup. The NHL satisfied this demand.

“Golden Knights” will play their next game on Thursday night. This match will also take place in Edmonton.
