Volleyball – Four New Premier League Clubs – Sport

The men’s volleyball Bundesliga (VBL) could be significantly expanded in the coming season. Baden Volleys SSC Karlsruhe, FT 1844 Freiburg, ASV Dachau and VC Bitterfeld-Wolfen have applied for a license for the first division, as the VBL announced on Wednesday. “This is an absolutely gratifying development,” said VBL Managing Director Julia Retzlaff. The VBL had previously eased the license terms. In the current season, only eight teams and VCO Berlin played with special playing rights in the first division. In previous years, clubs from the two second divisions had often not exercised their right to promotion. Whether there will actually be a field of twelve in the Bundesliga in the future also depends on the Netzhoppers KW-Bestensee. The club has filed for bankruptcy and at the same time submitted the license documents for the first division. “I can’t make a definitive statement on that yet,” said Retzlaff.
