VIDEO ⟩ What does a chess referee do? Warming up for the CESIS chess festival

“Chess referees must ensure that the players feel comfortable, so that the tournament runs according to the rules, and the less he has to be involved, the better. A lot of work needs to be done before the tournament. Chess judges are responsible for everything that happens in the chess room. Starting from assembling the pieces and setting the clocks correctly, ending with recording the results, looking after the players and solving problems,” says Toms Kalniņš, chief judge of the CĢIS chess festival.

The member of the board of the Latvian Chess Federation, tournament organizer and international category chess referee Toms Kalniņš and chess players Emīls Jānis Mieriņš and Miķelis Vingris participate in the new TVNET program about the work of a chess judge.
