“Very sad, maybe I’m a wimp”

The departure of Edwin van der Sar as general manager of Ajax was also a topic of discussion on Tuesday a woman. Caroline van der Plas, who was actually invited to talk about the gain of seats by the BoerBurgerBeweging in the Senate elections, spoke when asked about the painful farewell.

“He has to make his own choice, but what I find very unfortunate is that this actually lingers after a very good career,” Van der Plas responded. “The Netherlands really enjoyed him in his heyday. I always find it a bit sad that this lingers and the beautiful and good thing he has done has not.”

Prior to the last home game of the season, Van der Sar was massively booed by Ajax fans. Van der Plas found that regrettable. “They will have good reasons for it, but for someone to be booed like that… I think that’s a bit indicative of society at the moment. Cancel culture, people immediately angry… I feel a bit sad for him that it has to go this way .”

She regrets that Van der Sar is leaving in this way after such a long career. “Those fans also express what they think. I may be a wimp in that respect, but I think it’s all so hard these days. You see that everywhere, in society as a whole. For the person Van der Sar I think it’s very sad.”
