Verstappen celebrates his fourth victory of the F-1 season in Monaco

Verstappen (Red Bull) was 27.921 seconds ahead of Spanish ex-champion Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin, who climbed to the podium for the fifth time this season, and Frenchman Esteban Ocon of Alpine by 36.990 seconds.

For most of the race, Verstappen drove in dry conditions on the tight track, where overtaking is the most difficult in F-1.

However, heavy rain with around 20 of the 78 laps remaining forced some adjustments as some drivers had fitted their cars with unsuitable tires shortly before the rain and started to slide.

Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz slid into the fences but was lucky not to damage his car, Kevin Magnussen lost control of his Haas and Lance Stroll retired after damaging his Aston Martin.

It was Verstappen’s second victory in Monaco after 2021.

Briton Lewis Hamilton finished fourth in a Mercedes and scored a point for the fastest lap of the race. His team-mate George Russell was fifth, almost crashing into Sergio Perez’s Red Bull as visibility deteriorated.

Perez, who won the race last year, started from last place in qualifying after a crash and finished 16th.

Verstappen has won all 39 F-1 victories with Red Bull, which allowed him to break the F-1 record. Former “Red Bull” pilot German Sebastian Vettel had won 38 times in one team, winning four championship titles in a row from 2010 to 2013.

It has already been reported that Verstappen won the qualifying race on Saturday.

Sainz was the fastest in the first practice runs, and Verstappen in the second and third.

Verstappen has 144 points in the overall standings, Perez has 105 points and Alonso has 93 points.

22 stages are planned for the F-1 2023 championship.

Dutchman Max Verstappen won the 2022 championship for the second time in a row.
