Utah has a clear goal for the draft

Utah was one of the most surprising teams in the last regular season. When many expected them to be a losing machine, the Salt Lake Cityers not only started really well, but they held playoff spots for a long time and didn’t drop out of the postseason hunt until the last minute. Yes, it can be said that they traced the beginning of the path.

That’s how it is. Despite the good image given in the 2022-23 academic year, the reality is that the Jazz are immersed in a reconstruction that can cause the appearance of the team to change a lot during the summer. Of the current pieces, it is practically certain that Lauri Markkanen will continue, whom they trust in the long term, and Walker Kessler, who has completed a fantastic season as a rookie; beyond these, it can be said that everyone can jump ship.

Among the variables that they handle in the Salt Lake City office is what to do during the celebration of the next draft. Utah has three first-round picks in its possession, exactly those corresponding to numbers 9, 16 and 28. At this point it is not clear if they will retain all of them or if they will choose to trade some, but it is clear what type of player they hope to have obtained when end the night

As reported by Eric Walden of The Salt Lake Tribune, in the Jazz they have the priority of getting a ball handler; that is to say, with a boy who can carry the weight of the team with the ball in his hands. Following this line, the mentioned journalist gives some names of players that Utah would be studying closely: the guard Arkansas Anthony Black, Kansas forward Gradey Dick and UCF power forward Taylor Hendricks.

Although it is likely that the Jazz have some priority among those mentioned, the reality is that it may be the case that only one of them is available when it is their turn to choose (pick 9). According to the different mock draftthe three targeted players would be chosen between positions 6 and 12, with Anthony Black and Taylor Hendricks being the ones who have the best chance of hearing their names before the Jazz’s time arrives.
